PI-CHOU CHENG (鄭弼洲): Moon in my Heart

Date: February 03, 2015 – February 22, 2015

Hwang Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the new exhibition “The Moon In My Heart” by Taiwanese artist Pi-Chou Cheng.  This will be the artist’s first solo exhibition in the United States.  An opening reception will take place on Saturday, Feburary 7, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..  The artist will be present. The Moon, for many Asians, symbolizes a sense of reunion, an image of a community coming together.  It is the inspiration of Pi-Chou Cheng’s creation.  The Moon has existed long before the existence of the human history.  Using moon as the bridge, Cheng attempts to merge the old world to that of modern society. Today is the bridge between the past and the future and the process repeats itself.  The progress of the Chinese culture has made a sudden change when western cultures were introduced to China nearly a little more than a century ago.  Cheng’s paintings identify the harmonious transition between the two worlds and the coexistence of the old and the new. Pi-Chou Cheng is a graduate of National Taiwan University of Arts and received his Ed. Master of Art degree from Fontbonne University.  He is currently an Associate Professor of Art with Fooyin University and the Honorary President of Kaohsiung City Art Association. Pi-Chou Cheng has held multiple solo exhibitions in Taiwan and has most recently exhibited his work at Kaohsiung Cultural Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.  His works were exhibited at various international venues such as the Asia Watercolor Exhibit in Seoul, South Korea; Asia New Art Exhibit in Bangkok, Thailand; George Town Art Festival in George Town, Malaysia; Art Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; etc.
